Hopeless (Hopeless, #1)
Blurb (from Goodreads):
Sometimes discovering the truth can leave you more hopeless than believing the lies…

He terrifies her and captivates her all in the span of just one encounter, and something about the way he makes her feel sparks buried memories from a past that she wishes could just stay buried.

Sky struggles to keep him at a distance knowing he’s nothing but trouble, but Holder insists on learning everything about her. After finally caving to his unwavering pursuit, Sky soon finds that Holder isn’t at all who he’s been claiming to be. When the secrets he’s been keeping are finally revealed, every single facet of Sky’s life will change forever.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Hopeless (Hopeless, #1)(Source: I received a digital copy of this book for free on a read-to-review basis. Thanks to Atria Books and Netgalley.)
17-year-old Sky has had a bit of a sheltered upbringing, living with her mom who hates technology - no internet, no phones, no tv. She's also home-schooled, and her only true friend is the girl who lives next door - Six.

This year Six will be off an a foreign exchange program though, and Sky will be attending school for the first time ever.

Before school starts though, Sky meets Holder, a boy who is rumored to have been in a juvenile detention center for a year, and the only boy who has ever made Sky really feel anything.

Holder is hiding something from Sky though, something that it seems Sky might even be hiding from herself. Either way, Sky is about to find out that her life is not exactly what she thought it was, and will never be the same again.

I enjoyed this book, the mystery of what was really going on kept me hooked!

Sky was a normal 17 year old girl, apart from the fact that she no clue when it came to anything technological. She had no idea what facebook was, or what 'lol' stood for, and although she had some experience with boys, she had never actually felt anything for anyone. She didn't mind the occasional make-out session, but nobody ever made her heart pound, or made her want to kiss them.

Holder was an interesting character, and I liked the ideas behind his tattoo! I thought that he was really a bit of a tease to poor sky, especially with his 'firsts' conversation (he didn't want to kiss her, because that would be one 'first' out of the way for their relationship, and therefore their relationship would be closer to its end!). This whole 'firsts' thing was a little irritating to be honest, especially considering that a kiss counted as a 'first', but funnily enough, an orgasm didn't!

I liked the storyline in this book, although I think it was the mystery element that kept me reading the most. I was really intrigued as to what Holder's issues were, and what the hell was really going on with Sky. This was one of those books that you really don't want to put down because you just want to know what happens next!

I did like the ending of this story, even though part of it was a little difficult to believe in my opinion. I also liked the story that Sky's mom told her at the end, although I can't tell you what that is!

Overall; I liked this book, even though Holder was a bit of a tease at times. I was kept hooked by the mystery element of the story, and I liked how the book came together at the end.
7.5 out of 10.
